How to keep your feeders alive, healthy, and nutritious — straight from Bugger Depot.

🏡 Housing

Dubia roaches thrive in a warm, dry, and well-ventilated enclosure.
Use a plastic tote or glass tank with a secure lid and air holes for airflow.

Setup tips

  • Add egg cartons or cardboard flats vertically for climbing and hiding.

  • Keep enclosure clean and dry — avoid wet substrate.

  • Avoid direct sunlight or cold drafts.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 85 °F – 95 °F (29 °C – 35 °C)

  • Comfortable humidity: 40 – 60 %

Use a small heat mat or ceramic heater on one side so roaches can move between warm and cool areas.

🥕 Feeding / Gut-Loading

Healthy feeders make healthier reptiles.
Feed your Dubias a balanced diet to “gut-load” them before offering to pets.

Recommended foods

  • Fresh fruits: oranges, apples, bananas

  • Vegetables: carrots, squash, leafy greens

  • Dry roach chow or whole-grain cereal

Remove uneaten moist food after 24 hours to prevent mold.

💧 Water

Never place open water dishes — roaches drown easily.
Instead, use:

  • Water-absorbing crystals or

  • A fresh piece of fruit/veggie daily for moisture

🧹 Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Shake out frass (waste) and shed skins weekly.

  • Replace egg cartons when dirty.

  • Avoid strong cleaners — plain warm water works best.

🦎 Feeding to Reptiles

For best nutrition:

  1. Feed Dubias a quality diet for 24 hours before offering them.

  2. Dust with a calcium + D3 supplement (especially for dragons and geckos).

  3. Offer the correct size — no larger than the space between your pet’s eyes.
